Forest Operations and Bats in Scotland

Forest Operations and Bats in Scotland

This guidance note has been prepared by Forestry Commission Scotland (now Scottish Forestry), and Scottish Natural Heritage to advise people who are planning and carrying out felling or other operations in woodlands.

It indicates (a) how to establish the woodland features likely to be used by bats, particularly as breeding sites or resting places (i.e. bat roosts), and (b) how to plan and undertake management of woodlands to minimise the risk of committing offences against bats which are European protected species (EPS) under the Habitats Regulations.
