It is rare for a native woodland, especially a larger woodland, to be entirely covered with trees. Often it is the open spaces in or adjacent to the trees that contain features of conservation interest that can benefit from conservation grazing.

Even if a habitat type is not of nature conservation importance, it may provide important forage or shelter for stock so it is important that all habitat types are included in your evaluation.
