Ardnamurchan farmer to showcase growing trees

Rory Sinclair of Resipole Farm, Loch Sunart, is inviting farmers and other land managers to see how he has successfully integrated trees into his farming business for the benefit of the environment and productivity.

The Sinclair family has run the 1,400 hectare hill farm on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula since the 1950s.

They have been instrumental in promoting natural woodland regeneration techniques to boost biodiversity whilst producing their cattle.

As part of the award winning Integrating Trees Network initiative, Rory aims to share his experiences to help others who are considering establishing more woodland on their land.

The free event, entitled Walking & Talking Trees, benefits for biodiversity and beasts, is being held on Tuesday 27th August between 10am – 1pm.

Rory said:

“On Resipole Farm we’ve been very proactive in building a farming business that works in harmony with the local environment and within Scotland’s rainforest.

“Our approach to cattle grazing over the last 20 years has been to enhance wildlife and biodiversity, such as creating the right conditions for more butterflies and other species.

“I’m keen to share my experiences on applying for Forestry Grant Scheme funding and how we have encouraged natural regeneration of oak and birch, through careful deer management.”

Advice on forestry grants and how best to apply will also be highlighted by key Scottish Forestry staff at the event.

Representatives from Butterfly Conservation and NatureScot will also be attending to provide further environmental advice.

Lyn White is Scottish Forestry’s forestry and farming development officer and she is keen to see as many farmers and other land managers attending as possible. She added:

“The Integrating Trees Network events are a great way for farmers and land managers to see how others have successfully grown trees to boost their business  and the environment.

“There are many forestry grants that farmers can take advantage of and we will be able to discuss these in full on the day.”
