Do you already have a Woodland Condition Survey or Woodland Management Plan for your woodland, completed under:

  • an old Woodland Grant Scheme (WGS)?
  • the Scottish Forestry Grant Scheme (SFGS)?
  • the Forestry Grant Scheme (FGS)?

If so, relevant information from these can be used in the introduction and general description sections of your Woodland Grazing Plan. The guidance notes for completing a woodland condition survey and a woodland biodiversity management plan will help you understand these old surveys and management plans. They contain useful background information; however they are no longer required for current grant schemes.

If you do not have a WGS or SFGS Woodland Management Plan with objectives that are still relevant, you will need to decide on the current priority woodland management objectives for your woodland and satisfy yourself that controlled grazing will help achieve these objectives.
