Creag Clunie

An outline proposal to plant new woodland on Invercauld Estate, using trees naturally occurring in Scotland was submitted for grant support in 2010. It's proposed to enclose a total area of 820 hectares (2,025 acres) of heather hill and existing Scots pine woodland within a deer fence. Approximately 40% of the area enclosed will be planted with trees, with just over 30% of the enclosed area already woodland.

The Creag Clunie Environmental Impact Assessment identifies the main affects of creating a large area of new native woodland in this location. It also makes management recommendations to ensure that the proposals will not harm the current interests on the site.

Please note, due to the large size of this report it has been split into 3 parts:

The Environmental report was prepared by Scottish Woodlands for consideration and comment and made available for public consultation for a period of 30 days as required under the Forestry (Environmental Impact Assessment) (Scotland) Regulations 2017.

The proposal is for the establishment of a mixed forest totalling 139 hectares made up of productive conifer planting, new native woodland and areas of open ground.

The EIA report was prepared following Scottish Forestry’s EIA screening determination dated 22 September 2017, which highlighted the potential for significant effects on the environment relating to the cumulative impact of woodland creation on black grouse. The screening determination is published on this webpage.

Our decision will be made available and published on the website following our analysis of all the feedback received.
